Our History
In 1933 Charles Wesley Bowen, watchmaker, engraver, diamond setter, and designer, started his own business on Main Street in Lynchburg. Bowen Jewelry Company's foundation for future success was built on his knowledge, service, and integrity.
With quality jewelry and honest service, Bowen's has survived through moments of national crisis. On the brink of the Great Depression in 1933, Bowen's used its small supply of cash to help employees and desperate customers buy food and other necessities. On the evening of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Bowen's had its entire stock of watches stolen and survived the Christmas season with the help of watch suppliers. Bowen's moved from the middle block of Main Street to the corner of 9th and Main in 1946. Just 10 years later in 1956, Bowen's was one of the few retailers to host the Hope Diamond.
